SOUTH COAST
October to April
Stretching out along a great arc of sun-baked coastline from Galle to Hambantota, are some of the best known Sri Lankan beaches including Jungle Beach, Unawatuna, Weligama, Mirissa, Tallala and Tangalle. A great attraction of the South Coast cruises is the opportunity to experience the thrill of searching for the world’s largest Mammal – the Blue Whale – and many other species of whales and dolphins. Onshore visits include the UNESCO world heritage city of Galle Fort, the ancient Dondra Lighthouse at the southernmost point of Sri Lanka and turtle and migrant bird conservation projects. Evenings can be spent at any one of the chic beach resorts that dot the southern coastline. Unforgettable Sunrises and Sunsets are a highlight of our southern cruises.
(And May to September depending on prevailing weather conditions)
EAST COAST
May to October
The long East coastline offers vast tracks of yet unexplored golden beaches, a laid-back setting for travelers looking to step off the beaten path. The East coast offers the beautifully situated seaside port of Trincomalee, with its magnificent harbour, the coastal resort of Nilaveli with its calm and clear blue water, and magnificent reefs ideal for snorkling and swimming and the popular resort bay of Passikudah. The coastline is dotted with lesser known heritage sites and places of spiritual significance. The lagoons and inlets of the East with their water bird life and mangroves provide a different type of water experience. Further south lies the international famous surfing hotspot of Arugam Bay.
NORTH COAST
October to April
The North and its islands are a world away from the rest of the country, emerging after its recent isolation it is, in manyn respects, Sri Lanka’s last frontier. The city of Jaffna has a unique identity shaped by Portuguese, Dutch, British, Sinhalese and Muslim influences on its predominantly Tamil cultural history. The once vibrant town offers a glimpse into revival with its colourful temples set next to huge churches and streets of old colonial charm. Experience food and flavours that are unique to this region. In the Palk Bay, west of Jaffna, a string of largely uninhabited islands offers the visitor the experience of traditional lifestyle of these people. The trip to the North and cruising the islands is enhanced by the the pleasure of simply reaching such a remote and little‑visited part of Sri Lanka.
